Swedish Meatballs

Not sure why, today, I simply craving for the Ikea Swedish Meatballs. Did not want to make a trip to Ikea, so your faithfully here, decided to try my hand on making the meatballs myself. I used the Ikea recipe as a guide but modified alittle to suit my preference. And I have to say that it is not bad in taste.

I make it into a one dish meal with pasta and steamed vegetables.

Ingredients:
250gm minced beef
250gm minced pork
1 egg, lightly beaten
150ml milk and water
1/2 onion, finely-chopped
1 clove garlic, finely-chopped
1/4 cup all-purpose flour mixed with 1/2 tsp of baking soda
2 cold boiled potatoes
5 tbsps butter, margarine or oil (I Used canola oil)
Salt and white pepper for taste
All spices

Method:
1. Heat up the oil and add in the onion, stir fry at medium heat till fragrance. Add in the garlic and stir fry till golden.

2. Mash the potatoes, moisten the flour and baking soda in a little water.

3. Mix all the ingredients until there is consistency and flavour generously with salt, white pepper and a little finely crushed allspice.

4. Use a pair of spoons to shape the mixture into relatively large, round balls and transfer to a floured chopping board.

5. Fry them slowly in plenty of butter/oil.

Ingredients for cream sauce:

100ml milk
200ml beef stock
Dark Chinese soya sauce
1 tbsp cornstarch with 2 tbsp water
Salt, white pepper

Methods:
1. Swirl the boiling water or beef stock in a pan.

2. Add cream and thicken with white flour if preferred.

3. Season well with salt and pepper.

4. Serve the meatballs with the sauce, freshly boiled potatoes, uncooked lingonberry jam and salad. There you have the perfect Swedish meal!
